A House One Veteran Left to Eight More

A veteran on the Olympic Peninsula left his home to a local veterans organization. It was a quiet act of generosity – one veteran leaving something lasting for others who had also served.

The organization received a house, but what it needed was housing.

Eight men now live there

Working in two phases, we converted the home into eight private bedrooms with shared living spaces, an office, and a kitchen built for sharing. Today, eight veterans live there.

The construction itself was familiar work: a new standing-seam metal roof, stone veneer, a rebuilt kitchen, two remodeled bathrooms, new plumbing throughout, laundry facilities, exterior landings, and landscaping.

Nothing about the work was beyond us. What made the project extraordinary was what – and who – it was for.

One Project Became a Partnership

Since 2023, we have returned six times to work on buildings across three of the organization’s properties.

We reconfigured a shelter while it remained occupied – removing and rebuilding dividing walls, reframing rooms, and adding sound insulation so residents could sleep. We converted cabins into complete apartments with new electrical service, kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry facilities. We have also returned for individual projects: a kitchen, wall repairs, and other work that simply needed to be done.

Two hours separates the shelter from the original house. The distance has never changed our commitment.

We go there for them.

What Nonprofit Construction Requires

Nonprofit construction is not simply residential work. Board approvals, grant requirements, phased funding, and occupied buildings all affect how a project must be planned and managed – what can be scheduled, what must wait, and how to keep a building safe and livable while the work is underway.

Over three years of working with this organization, we have learned how to navigate those demands without losing sight of the people the building serves.

If your organization is considering a project like this, we will tell you plainly what it will require. We will not approach it as though it were just another kitchen remodel.

We are a veteran-owned company. That is on our footer like it is on a hundred others, and on its own it does not mean much.

This is what we would rather point to.
