The work started with excavation and concrete forms set tight against the existing house. Tying a new foundation to an old one is the part nobody sees later, and it is the part that decides whether the addition stays put for the next fifty years.
With the foundation cured, the walls went up and the new framing was tied into the original structure — floor levels, wall lines and roof all had to meet the existing house cleanly.
All new siding, trim, windows and roofing were matched to respect the original design so the finished house lives as one coherent home. A craftsman homeowner wanted to truly personalize the interior by finishing it himself.
